About
Corey Michael Cerrone, age 26, of Hilton Head, beloved son of Angelo and Elaine Condon Cerrone, died suddenly Wednesday, March 29, 2000, in Hilton Head. As a student, Corey received many academic awards, including Fairfield’s "Certificate of Excellence" recognizing his leadership abilities in school and local community. He was listed in "Who’s Who in American High Schools" 1988-1989. Corey graduated summa cum laude from Fairfield College Preparatory School in 1991, where he was active in Junior Achievement, the Ski Club, played freshman football and sang in the chorus. Corey’s musical ability on the classical guitar earned him a full scholarship to the University of South Carolina. Corey settled in Hilton Head Island in 1994, where he became an avid golfer and pursued his passions for music and his love of people. Corey’s charisma won him lasting friendships wherever he went. "To know him is to love him - we are all better people to have known him." In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by a brother, Jay R. and his wife, Jacqueline, of Port Saint Lucie, FL and have since had 2 beautiful children, daughter Olivia and son Corey.; a sister, Barbara and her husband, William Todd Major, of Guilford, CT; two nieces, Samantha and Rachel Major; his great-aunt, Jean Pagliaro; his aunt, Barbara Rinko passed in 2003; and a cousin, Walter Rinko who is married to Pauline and has twins, Catherine and Patrick.
The Corey Cerrone Memorial Fund aka The Corey Cerrone Memorial Golf Tournament aka The Corey Cup was started September 9, 2000. In Corey's honor we have become the largest small charity golf tournament on Hilton Head Island. We have successfully raised over $292,000 since its inception for charities in need (please see beneficiaries page to see a complete list) including Hilton Head Heroes, PEP, SC Governors School of Arts and Humanities, Volunteers in Medicine and Strive to Excel as well as towards a music scholarship that goes to a high school student at both Fairfield Ludlowe High School and Fairfield Prep in Corey's beloved home town of Fairfield, CT.
The Corey Putt was created last year to allow those who can't participate in the Corey Cup another event to be a part of. The Corey Putt is a miniature golf 2man co-ed tournament that is played on Friday, the day before the Corey Cup
